The Martins Family

The Martins Family

Hi!  We are the Martins family.
Flavio and I, Niki, have three beautiful girls,
who have come to us through the miracle of adoption or In vitro fertilization.

Our oldest is Hannah, she is kind, responsible and full of life.  She is in first grade and loves to read and draw pictures for everyone.  Hannah started the piano this year and is doing very well.  She loves animals and can't wait to get a pet of her own.

Our second child is Lia.  She is three and amazingly smart.  She loves to give hugs and hold her baby sister.  Lia loves to color and play games.  She dances and spins all day long.  She loves to play with her older sister, and most of the time, they play so well together. :)

The baby of the family is Eva.  She will be 2 in March.  Eva is our spunky, spirited girl.  She has learned quickly that she needs to be strong to stand up with her two older sisters.  Eva is a smiley, happy baby who loves her blanket and dogs.

Flavio and I met at BYU-Hawaii.  We had been good friends for a while, when something changed and we knew that we wanted to be together forever.
Flavio was in school, studying IT and working as the school's web designer.  I was in school, getting ready to graduate in Intercultural Communications. I worked as a teacher's aide and at the Reading and Writing Center where we helped students with their research papers.  We were both very busy and loving school.  As my graduation date came closer and I would be leaving Hawaii to go back to Utah, we made plans to be married in January of 2004.
This was such a fun time of our lives.  We were so excited to be husband and wife and start our family together.
We were married on January 17, 2004 in the Bountiful, LDS Temple.

Soon after we were married we decided we wanted to start our family.  Month after month we were heartbroken with no sign of being pregnant.  After a year of trying on our own, we decided to seek medical help.  After a few months of working with infertility specialists we found that having children on our own was almost impossible.

We were devastated, as all I had wanted my whole life was to be a mother.

We turned to prayer and knew that we needed to try In vitro fertilization or IVF.

What is IVF?
It is when an embryo is made outside of the woman's body through amazing medical advances and then placed into the woman's uterus through an out-patient medical procedure.

It is, however, a very expensive and complicated process.  But we were willing to do anything to have children.

Our Hannah was born after our third round of IVF.

We were ecstatic and overjoyed to finally become parents!

We were in love from the moment we knew she was in my belly.

Hannah was born on a beautiful spring day and we were completely in love with this little bundle of joy!

A few years passed and we were ready to add to our family.  After another failed round of IVF, through a lot of prayer we knew that our next child needed to come to us through the amazing miracle of adoption.

We received Lia after two heartbreaking, failed adoptions 10 months later...and we knew she belonged with us the moment we saw her picture.

We fell in love with both Lia and her precious birth-mother in one instant.
We will be forever grateful to Lia's birth-mother and birth-father for their selfless gift to us.
Lia is a treasure.

Hannah was so excited to have a sister!

Once Lia was two, we felt, again, that we needed to go through another round of IVF.  This time it worked, the first time!  We were so excited and our little Eva came to us the following spring.

We were full of joy!
Our family was almost complete!

Almost 2 years have passed...

...And now we are longing for our final child, who we know is waiting to come home to us.
After many prayers our family knows that our fourth child will be able to join us only through the selfless act of adoption.

We are very excited for this journey and we can't wait to meet our new birth-family and our new baby.

We love our children more than anything and have tried to provide a happy and stable life, full of new experiences and happy memories.

*We hope that you will consider us to be a part of your baby's life.  We will never understand how difficult this choice is for you, but please know that if you do select us, your baby will be loved, not only by you, but by us as well and we will do everything in our power to help this precious baby grow up happy and healthy.

Much love,
Flavio, Niki, Hannah, Lia and Eva
